It's strange really, this October I will have been firmly planted on American soil for seven years.SEVEN YEARS!!!! Where the bloody 'ell did that time go? It certainly doesn't feel that long ago. Well actually there is a time when it does feel like forever. When I am homesick. This Christmas was the worst that I have had it in a while.I am very lucky to have a wonderful husband (bloody good job really considering that I moved over three thousand miles to be with him!!) children,family(in-laws) and friends here but when the homesickness comes, it knocks me for six. Certain things just have to stay British in this house. We all wear our wellies in the rain, the babes ask for their vitamns (v -it-ah-minz,thank you very much)every morning, albeit with an American accent.why is that?they spend twenty four hours a day attatched to me like limpets yet they will still call me MAAM-MEEEE. TSK TSK!!! oh and I don't wrap my left overs in aluminuminuminuminuminum!!
I do love it here in America,I feel very blessed but I miss old England.
Whilst surfing the net for snippets of ol' Blighty I came across this clip on you tube yum yum
We all love Paddington in this house (thanks for the book Auntie Liv) I wish I could say the same for Marmite!!
It certainly made me feel better, you see,you can't beat some hot buttered toast with a good slathering of
MARMITE with a strong cuppa to take those homesick blues away.
Of course a good old chin wag with my favorite favourite woman always helps
Mum,I know you're reading this,I love you and if you weren't my Mum,I sure hope that I would be lucky enough to have you as a friend.Come see us soon. don't forget the marmite or you'll be in the basement :0)
I like the basement! and why did you put a photo of someones old aunt Matilda on there on your blog, why did you not put me on there, you know, that one where I look the spitting image of an older Katie Holmes or the one took a few years earlier when my hair is a lot fairer and I was often mistaken for Kate Moss......I love you too Tash and miss you loads, you will be pleased to hear that today we booked our Thanksgiving Holiday into the diary...It's Thursday 27th November....I hope I have this date correct, if not I'm sure someone will let me know by reply...Dad's off to have his knee replaced next Thursday, his consultant said he'll have him up and playing Badminton and Tennis in no time which really thrilled your dad cos he's never played those games before, must be some sort of magic ingredient in the anasthetic.......His consultant is a great guy with a fantastic humour, he always insults your dad and this time he reckoned your dad walked like a waddling duck, your dads paying him as well. He's staying with the eating plan to help with his recovery, he's already 18lbs lighter, he keeps telling the staff that I'm also on the eating plan and that I'm soon going to lose 15stone ( 210 lbs ) of ugly fat, then he tells them I'm divorcing him......actually, we are both very excited if a little apprehensive about the op as dad will be able to do a lot more again once he has recovered...love to you all XXX

I liked reading what you have to say about being homesick. I feel the same way about christmas. That is the toughest time of the year to be away from family and friends. I just met Melissa from Tiny happy who has just emigrated to Norway from New Zealand. I got to smell marmite!

:)
aw- I never lived in england but my whole family is from there, so my childhood was all english-isms and lots of tea, so i know a bit how you feel.
I miss my dads kippers on weekend mornings, orange smarties tasting like orange and just plain hearing that accent!
happy new year to you!

Oh I feel for you! That sounds so difficult, despite all the loveliness that you have there in the States.
Thank you for your lovely comment on my blog!
I've had a quick look around and have to say how much I love the black & white photos of your little boy asleep when he was ill (a sign of being completely zonked out when you can photograph them so closely without them waking!).
Also lucky, lucky you with that wonderful sewing machine - does that mean it can overlock garments and cuts the fabric as it overlocks? If so that is amazing, as your machine doesn't look nearly as scary as all the overlockers that I've looked at. What a lovely husband you have!

Marmite? No way. You couldn't pay me to eat that stuff. No one will call me "Mommee" ever in this house, although we do have "garbage" and a car in the "gurarge."
